An interview with Emma Bennett Makeup Artist
I love meeting new suppliers, especially when they pamper me! I had the absolute pleasure of Emma Bennett’s company the other week. We sat down for a cup of tea and a mince pie and talked all things wedding and beauty and to finish off Emma treated me to a makeover before I headed out to the Wedding Industry Awards….
So who is Emma and what does she do ?
Having worked in the Beauty industry for a number of years, in salons and self-employed. I got engaged a few years ago (and married this year) and loved everything about the industry so decided to branch out and add make up artistry to my beauty business. Primarily, I am a make up artist but I am able to offer a range of beauty treatments in the run up to the big day, for both the bride and her party and also the groom. (Such as nails, massage, lashes, HD Brows)
If a bride want’s to book you for their wedding day makeup, what do they need to do?
When the date has been confirmed and the contracts signed, we will organise a trial which is really important to make sure you are happy with the look on your wedding day. If the whole bridal party is being booked for make up, I am happy to book the day out for the trial so that that there are no time restraints and everybody is happy. If it is just the bride having a trial, I will allocate 2-3 hours which should be more than adequate time to perfect the make up look. I will note down on a face chart all of the products that are used and take a few photos so I can refer to the final look on the wedding day. At the trial, I will also advise how the big day will run; the time I will get there, timings for all of the different make ups which are booked and the time we will be finished etc. This can calm the nerves of the bride so that they know exactly how the morning will run, in terms of make up. On the wedding day, I will only ever take on one wedding in a day, meaning that all of my time can be dedicated to you.
I love seeing makeup artists kits – tools of the trade. What products do you use?
I try to stock all of the latest/ most popular products which can range from high end to high street. To name a few I use Estee Lauder, Nars, Anastasia Beverly-Hills, Illamasqua, MAC, Maybelline, Make-up Forever. Also, in my kit, I have a range of skincare products specific for different skin types. Good skincare is extremely important especially for those who aren’t used to wearing a full face of make up. One of my favourites is the Rodial Stem Cell range which is perfect for all skin types and can provide protection from the elements and pollutants, hydration, a primer for make-up and anti ageing assistance.
